Um...I meant to type ‘sthingy’ but it says ‘sthingy’. What gives?
A: On the old (ProBoards) forum, there were some mildly amusing language filters set up. One of the most dangerous was a filter that changed the word ‘thingy’ to ‘thingy.’ At the time most of us were blissfully ignorant about the meaning of the former word, though now we have been enlightened. The problem was, it would be caught even if it was in the middle of another word. Thus, sthingy became sthingy and Reese Withersthingy became Reese Withersthingy (Charlie Peathingy also became Charlie Peathingy, which frankly sounds much worse than the original in terms of suggestive content). This would generally pop up in completely serious posts (I seem to recall the first occurrence was when Josh accused the Christian music industry of sthingy-feeding faith to immature believers--it became sthingy-feeding and his point was completely ruined) and add to the air of hilarity we try so hard to preserve. So when we switched to the current phorum software (Invision), I added that to the filter rules. It annoys pretty much everyone but me.

IT doesn't sound possible, but Chanel managed to turn Reese Withersp00n into a fashion victim at the Golden Globes. Withersp00n, who won Best Actress for "Walk the Line," wore a white-and-silver "vintage" Chanel dress - only to find out it was a mere 3 years old and that Kirsten Dunst wore the same frock to Globes after-parties back in 2003. Whoops!

Withersthingy's rep, Nancy Ryder, is said to be so angry at Chanel for giving her a recently recycled gown that she's vowing not to accept anything from Chanel again - or let her other clients, including Jennifer Lopez and Renée Zellweger, wear anything from the French couture house.

Ryder said, "Reese was told the dress was vintage. It was not. I'm not angry - just a little disappointed, but the big deal is Reese won the Golden Globe."

I really admire Reese Witherspoon. She is beautiful, talented, and definitely juggles a lot on her plate and still gives off the aura of elegance and grace but without being pretentious. She still has that Southern charm about her that makes her so approachable.

The 1st movie I saw with Reese with was "the man in the moon". She was so cute and I really adored her. And my cousine looks like her. I still adore Reese and she is so down to earth !
Last time I read in an interview that a journalist asked her who was her cook and she replied "Reese Witherspoon". As simple as that ! Love you Reese

NEW ORLEANS -- In a gutted building with no interior walls, exposed pipes and no air conditioning to stave off the Louisiana heat, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner and Cicely Tyson chatted with children who had lost their homes, then watched as they sang, danced and worked on art projects.

The movie stars were among a delegation of women touring devastated parts of the city Monday to meet with families and children trying to adjust to life after Hurricane Katrina.

"I don't think you get a real clear perspective unless you come down and see it," Witherspoon said after chatting with students at a "Freedom School" set up by the Children's Defense Fund to help young storm victims.

"The children need attention right now," said Witherspoon, this year's best actress Oscar winner for "Walk the Line."

The visit was part of an effort by the fund to bring attention to the needs of storm victims, particularly traumatized children. The group plans to open more than 20 such schools in communities along the Gulf Coast: 13 for Louisiana and nine for Mississippi.

The New Orleans school is in part of the city inundated with 5 feet of water after Katrina hit Aug. 29. Many homes sit empty and deteriorating, and piles of storm debris still line sidewalks.

About 1.2 million people younger than 18 are living in areas rendered disaster zones by Katrina, and as many as 8 percent, or 100,000, are expected to develop post-traumatic stress disorder, according to various estimates.

Some experts say the mental health toll may be much higher. Of the first 1,000 children screened by the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, 27 percent displayed symptoms of trauma, including nightmares, flashbacks, heightened anxiety and bedwetting.

"I've been shocked and heartbroken," said Garner, star of TV's "Alias" and the film "Elektra," who cried when the children danced and sang "Something Inside So Strong" by South African singer Labi Siffre.

I read somewhere that Reese and Ryan supposedly had dinner one night together that ended in a huge fight in front of a handful of paparazzi. It was a very heated argument with them yelling and being sarcastic and Ryan eventually ignoring everything Reese was saying. I can't help but wonder if it really happened and if these were from that night. From the body language, it seems to be possible. They don't look happy and they both look pretty defensive (with Reese's arms crossed and Ryan walking ahead of her and not looking back).

I don't think it was right for STAR to publish a false story, but they don't exactly say it was confirmed either that she was pregnant.

I like Reese though and she isn't into the media or a fan of the tabloids, so I don't think she's sueing just to get a piece of the limelight... but as a celebrity she has to know tabloids are vicious and will print lies like they always have, so I can't really say I agree with either side.

Yeah, I used to think she was probably just fake nice. She just seemed to try a little too hard. But I read a few fan stories from people who had met her and they all said she was just as normal and lovely as can be.

Anyway, she had my favorite outfit at the TCA. It was casual but really stylish and cute. I loved it.

have separated. The couple's rep released a statement to TMZ Monday morning that says "We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."

Sources tell TMZ Witherspoon has contacted celebrity divorce lawyer Robert Kaufman, who has represented Jennifer Aniston, Roseanne and Lisa Marie Presley.

Sources say Witherspoon spoke with Kaufman about divorcing Ryan Phillippe, her husband of seven years. The couple has two children. They met at Witherspoon's 21st birthday party.

As for why Witherspoon contacted Kaufman, we're told it was not triggered by one event. Rather, one connected source says it was "cumulative."

Divorce papers have not yet been filed.

It's official! News just broke on People.com

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have separated after seven years of marriage, PEOPLE has confirmed.

"We are saddened to announce that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate," a rep for the couple said in a statement released Monday. "They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time." TMZ.com first reported the couple's split.

Witherspoon, 30, and Phillippe, 32, have two children, daughter Ava, 7, and son Deacon, 3.

The couple met when a mutual friend brought Phillippe to Witherspoon's 21st-birthday party. Two years later, after they had costarred in 1999's Cruel Intentions, he proposed. They married in June 1999 and had Ava three months later.

Though the couple seemed to have it all – a successful relationship, thriving careers and beautiful children – they both spoke openly about having to work on their marriage.

In 2002, Phillippe told New York's Daily News that they were in couples therapy. "The biggest mistake," he said, "is not doing that, ignoring it and having the marriage fall apart because of laziness."

Similarly Witherspoon told PEOPLE at the time: "I'm not interested in the fallacy of the Hollywood relationship: 'We have perfect children who never cry; we never have problems; we never argue, we're always best friends,'" she said. "That's just not true. We're normal people with normal problems."

Witherspoon, who won an Oscar for her role in last year's hit Walk the Line, is next expected to appear in the drama Rendition. Phillippe is currently starring in the WWII drama Flags of Our Fathers.

But they are at least civil enough to each other to show up to daughter Ava's school play (she played a kangaroo!) Our sources tell us that Reese and Ryan said nary a word to each other during the show and arrived and left separately. Good for Reese that she finally got rid of this cheating party-boy and good for Ryan that he is free now to sow his wild oats and not held back by the prudish Reese! These two are both better off without each other! They did produce two beautiful kids though- Deacon and Ava- and they are much better off living with responsible, church-going Reese!

After reigning queen of the red carpet at the Oscar ceremony over the weeekend in a gorgeous purple Nina Ricci gown, single gal Reese Witherspoon kept it casual yesterday during a little shopping spree on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, California. Rocking slim black pants, a cozy cardigan and chic flats, Reese was the picture of style and comfort and she made her way back to the hotel where she is staying at. Kids Eva and Deacon were back in Reese's native Charleston, South Carolina being taken care of by their grandparents while Reese tended to some of her movie star responsibilities.

'It wasn't just us. The newly single actress says her appearance at the Golden Globes in January was a chic coming-out for her. "I felt like I looked different than I've ever looked," Witherspoon tells April's Harper's Bazaar, on stands March 27.

The Oscar-winning actress and mother of two has taken some fashion hits for dowdy choices. She credits Nina Ricci designer Olivier Theyskens for the fresh look that has evolved since she and husband Ryan Phillippe split in October. "I've used a stylist before, but these days I'm kind of just going with Olivier's taste."

Also contributing to her new sleek style: closet purging. "I recently put a big pile of clothes on the floor of my closet, and I looked at a lot of the stuff and thought, 'That's not me at all. Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal's springtime romance has ended.

"They just recently broke up. It's totally and completely over," a source in Witherspoon's circle tells PEOPLE.

"Reese was the one who had to do it," says the source. "She just got out of a divorce and was so concerned with her family, she just didn't have the time for him and he really demanded that."

Adds the source: "They're still friends. Things are fine, but it was a clean break – [there's] no chance of getting back together."

Reps for both actors did not immediately return calls for comment.

Witherspoon, 31, and Ryan Phillippe, 32, who confirmed their split in October after seven years of marriage, have two children: daughter Ava, 7, and son Deacon, 3. The actress started dating Gyllenhaal, 26, her costar in the upcoming CIA thriller Rendition, in the spring.

Although they were careful to avoid the spotlight, they were spotted March 23 dining with two other couples at L.A.'s Il Sole and "being playful," an observer said at the time.

Although the pair didn't have much screen time together while filming Rendition for eight weeks in Morocco, during a reshoot in L.A., "Jake went and reintroduced himself to Reese," a source close to both actors told PEOPLE.

From there, said a friend of Witherspoon's, "Things slowly progressed, but it was never something she thought would happen from the start. She just kind of developed this little crush over time."

On dealing with hard times post-split with husband Ryan Phillipe:
“Right around Christmas-time I was sitting in a parking lot and I felt like I just couldn’t get out of the car. It was like, I can’t get out of the car. Any I though, Okay, half of the parking lot has dealt with this. More than half of the parking lot has dealt with this. Okay, let’s make it a little bigger. Half of this city has dealt with this. Okay, let’s make it a little bigger-half of this country, until I finally got out of the car. It was like, it’s okay. It’s okay. There’s this moment in Walk the Line where June Carter says, ‘I was never aware of how much I was seen.’ I was very aware of how much I was seen. It was this moment of self-discovery and loss of identity and who was stepping out of the car-you know? Who is that person? Should I not be this honest?”

Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon had another PDA-packed public date Wednesday, taking Witherspoon's two children, Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4, trick or treating in L.A.'s Brentwood neighborhood.

Witherspoon, 31, dressed as a witch; Gyllenhaal, 26, an ape.

"They were holding hands and swinging them in the air as they walked around the neighborhood," adds a witness, who says Gyllenhaal often lifted up his gorilla mask to smooch his Rendition co-star. "Reese was laughing at everything Jake was saying."

As Ava (also in witch wardrobe) and Deacon (dressed as a super hero) ran up to every door for treats, "Reese and Jake waited on the sidewalk and flirted," the onlooker tells Usmagazine.com.


They even started to act like a pair of giddy kids themselves.

"Jake tapped Reese on the butt and then she hit him back — they began running a circle hitting each other!" the witness says. "Then Jake picked Reese up off her feet and she screamed."

Gyllenhaal seemed to play it cool during his first public outing with Witherspoon's children.

“Jake ran up to Deacon with the gorilla mask and pretended to scare him!” the onlooker says. “Deacon laughed.”

He also had a few scares for Witherspoon.

Adds the witness, "Sometimes he came up from behind and nuzzled his big hairy mask into her neck.”

Reese Witherspoon is desperate to work with Hollywood actress Kate Winslet — because they have so much in common. The Oscar-winning actress insists she’d love to appear alongside the Titanic star on the big screen, because they both successfully juggle their careers with motherhood. Winslet has two kids, Mia, 7; and Joe, 3; while Witherspoon is mum to Ava, 8; and Deacon, 4. And Witherspoon believes the pair are so alike, they’re almost “the same person”.

She says, “I had a chance recently to hang out with Kate Winslet and (Winslet’s husband) Sam Mendes. We just really get along. We’re from different countries but we’re sort of the same person. We’re the same age, we have children who are the same age. I just love Kate. I think she is just so great and I’d really love to work with her.”

“I always wanted to be a European movie star, wear giant sunglasses, elaborate neck scarves, smoke hand-rolled cigarettes, and have savoir faire and gravitas,” Reese admitted onstage at the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards last night.

Obviously, the perky all-American actress couldn’t become one. So she became friends with one.

“Imagine my good fortune when Kate Winslet moved into my neighborhood, rang my door bell and said, (insert British accent here) “Dahling, Sam is off shooting, and I believe our children are the same age. Could they possibly have a play date and oh, by the way, it’s almost 9 o’clock and I’ve had nothing to do drink, do you have any wine?”


What does Reese admire most about her pal Kate? “Her fearlessness. When I saw her in Iris and she took off all her clothes and jumped into that lake, I thought, ‘Wow, I bet that lake is really cold.’ And then I thought, ‘Wow, There’s an actor without fear.”

Reese’s favorite Kate scene is from Holy Smoke. “When she peed all over herself in front of Harvey Keitel. Now that’s commitment!”

In her introduction of the evening’s Artist of the Year winner, Reese couldn’t tell any funny personal stories because “they’re all too bawdy or tawdry or drunken to tell.”

Monday afternoon, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal shared a very romantic lunch at The Slanted Door in San Francisco. By romantic, I mean our own eyewitnesses said they were making out the whole time. The two were on their way back from a weekend up north in wine country where they stayed at The Carneros Inn, enjoying their time in one of the compound's private cottages. From the sounds (and looks) of things, these two definitely aren't afraid to get a little affectionate.

Reese Witherspoon was so upset when Polaroid decided they weren’t going to produce their instant cameras anymore.

The 31-year-old Oscar-winning actress said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, “I was absolutely despondent the other day when I heard they not going to be making Polaroids anymore. Every since I was a little kid my mother was very bad with 35 mm cameras pictures so she took Polaroids of us. I have them as me as a kid and then I put my kids in the same position and take the same picture and stuff.”

Ellen surprised Reese with a basket full of Polaroid cameras and film. Reese took a picture of Ellen, telling her to say “cheeseburger.”

Reese also shared about her strange obsession with garbage–apparently she doesn’t like it when trash is overflowing in the garbage can.

She said, “I like to throw a lot of things away. Particularly at Christmas, it makes me a little crazy when the trash is overflowing. So then I put on rubber boots and I literally get into the trash can and I stomp on the trash and [my son] Deacon thinks it’s so great. We call me ‘the mommy trash compactor.’”

Reese added to her strange habit: “Sometimes I’ll sneak in and look at the neighbor’s garbage cans and see if it’s kind of empty. I’ll wait literally until the middle of the night when the children are asleep and I’ll take my extra garbage and I’ll put it in the can.”

It was a social weekend for the pair: On Friday night, they attended a cocktail party for country singer Ryan Bingham.

i don't like that blue bikini at all. it does absolutely nothing for her-for her shape or her coloring. there were pictures of her wearing it in the tabloids last year speculating that she might be pregnant again. i think thats a good sign that you should buy a new bathing suit.

Four Christmases star Reese Witherspoon opens up about her divorce with Ryan Phillippe, feeling unsure about marriage with Jake Gyllenhaal and the biggest detriment in her life — tabloid fame — in the new issue of Parade magazine.

Reese on her divorce with actor Ryan Phillippe: “There are things in my life that are hard to reconcile, like divorce. Sometimes it is very difficult to make sense of how it could possibly happen. Laying blame is so easy. I don’t have time for hate or negativity in my life. There’s no room for it. When you make wrong choices, you have to take responsibility for them: ‘What part of this do I own?’ I struggle to figure out what made me make those choices. All I can hope for is that I’ve learned something from it and won’t make the same choices again.”

Reese on the biggest problem in her life: “The biggest detriment of my life is tabloid fame. It removes me from people. When I first meet someone, it is so hard for me to overcome everything they’ve read about me. It’s not fair. It’s difficult, because I’m the kind of person who just wants to hug people.”

Reese on giving her kids a good value system: “I’m teaching the children what we were taught growing up–a real set of rules, discipline, and love. Children thrive with a sense of structure, and they’re frightened without it. The ways you behave, how you speak to other people–those things don’t leave you… The other day my son said to me, ‘Mama, why do I have to take off my hat in the house?’ I was like, ‘Because it’s respectful. That’s why you take off your hat.’ And he goes, ‘And I always have to take off my hat in church, too!’ It really bothered him. But those values sustain a life. Respect. Faith. Empathy. Compassion.”

Reese on what life would be if she wasn’t an actress: “I loved Stanford, and I wish I had gone back and finished. Today, if I were not an actor, I’d probably be a social anthropologist or a psychologist. I have an endless curiosity about people. But then I think, ‘I’ve been very lucky. I don’t regret the path I went on in life’.”

Reese on marriage: “Family is all we have in life, but I don’t know how I feel about marriage. Obviously, I’m not far enough out of being married to think about doing it again. You sort of reconstitute your family. You find a family, with people who come into your life for a reason.”

For some reason she's been rubbing me the wrong way lately and I don't like her nearly as much as I used to... she's been coming off as sort of arrogant and pretentious in a lot of the interviews I've been reading lately. It also bothers me that I recently read that she only gives her kids one or two gifts at Christmas because it keeps them humble and they appreciate it more (which is fine), but here she is shopping multiple times a week at expensive boutiques. Seems hypocritical.

i certainly dont hate the dress, but it isnt spectacular or anything. man, i love them as a couple. im not sure about the baby thing - it seems like that would go against her typical morals, no?
